Ever popular, this fixture is sure to attract some of the best Flat racers on the circuit. Find that perfect spot in the stands and watch some of racing’s superstars thunder down the home-straight. For those wanting a social occasion, find a spot on the Makerfield Lawn and be entertained by our resident DJ, who will perform throughout the day.
Pop over to the Kauto Star statue, next to the County Entrance, and find our dedicated photo backdrop. You can have your photo taken for free and we'll send you a copy too, as a memento of your day with us. We're also running a fun competition: anyone looking super-cool in this hot weather could be in with a chance of winning tickets to either of our next two racedays, on Saturday 11 August or Saturday 8 September. Judging will be done by the fourth race and the winners will be contacted on the day.
ENGLAND V SWEDEN
Worried you’ll miss the England match on Saturday? Fear not, we’ll be showing the live game across all TV screens, in every bar across the racecourse. This does not apply to the large, on-course screens which will be dedicated to racing and pre-racing coverage.
We have relaxed the dress code slightly due to the hot weather, please see below:
Premier Suite / Harry’s Bistro - A jacket will not be required, but gentlemen still need to wear a tie.
County Stand / O&T / Boxes – Strictly no sportswear or trainers still applies, but smart tailored shorts will be acceptable.
What is the Old Newton Cup?
It is one of the most prestigious racedays in flat racing and is the longest-standing race at Haydock, dating back to the 18th century when it use to take place at Old Golborne Health Course. The Old Newton Cup became the feature race of the Newton Races and still draws in impressive horses and prize fund. The flat handicap race is run over a distance of a mile and a half and and takes place each year in July. The tradition and heritage of the race makes the Old Newton Cup an integral part of Lancashire's flat racing history.
We are running a complimentary shuttle bus from Newton-le-Willows train station from two hours before the first race with return journeys after racing.
